You know those days when you can't seem to help but be really dumb? Well, for me, today is that day. Now I have blond moments regularly, but this is worse. So when I took a shower this morning, I left my ring on the bathroom sink, and later today my sister Becky brings it to me, I thank her and begin the process of remember which hand and then which finger I had the ring on...Middle finger, left hand. Easy. I look down at my hands...look back at the ring I hold...and then again at my hands...My brain is just straining to remember...which way is right...and which is left?? I held my hands out, and extended both thumbs to a perpendicular angle to my hands, and look for which hand creates the letter L. Thanks to The Big Rock Candy Mountain for teaching me this trick, I can tell which is my left hand because it makes the letter L, what an experience!! :)
Then again this morning, while working on preparing a fresh pot of coffee for myself, I had yet another dumb impulse. I'm grinding up my coffee beans after already adding the water, but I didn't put the pot back under the spout, and I realize that the water is leaking from the spout on to the heater. I quick slip my hand under the machine to catch the boiling drips. To late, I pulled my hand back with a yelp and looked down at the red burn marks on my palm. Brilliant.
Now these things always come in threes, so today at lunch, I'm feeling rather dull, and the noise has created an overwhelming hum in my mind. I look over and Becky as she takes the last sip from her 7up, and I motion for her to hand me the empty can. I set it perfectly in front of me, so I can see the label, and WHAM!! I attempt to smash the can with my bare fist...The can goes flying across the room, coming out nearly unscathed. I'm chuckling nervously, amused but feeling bad about the extra commotion. I look at my fist where flesh met sharp tin, and yeah, I'd cut my finger. Oh happy day.
So now I'm trying to get the most mobile function from my pinky though its wrapped in gauze since Becky insisted that there weren't any band aids. And now I'm just waiting...for the next dumb thing :)
